ASEAN Transit Transport Route Signs to be Installed

News Releases 26 Jul 2019 road signs

The ASEAN Framework Agreement on the Facilitation of Goods in Transit (AFAFGIT)[1] aims to establish an effective, efficient, integrated and harmonised regional transport system that facilitates the transportation of goods within the ASEAN Economic Community. In June 2019, Singapore has fully ratified 9 Protocols under the AFAFGIT. This marks Singapore’s commitment to the ASEAN Economic Community’s vision of deepening regional economic integration and improving intra-ASEAN connectivity.

2          With the full ratification of the AFAFGIT, the Land Transport Authority will be installing road signs to indicate the transit transport routes for ASEAN goods vehicles operating in Singapore. These transit transport routes are part of the ASEAN Highway Network, which enhances connectivity by linking land transport corridors across all ASEAN member states, to facilitate the movement of vehicles within ASEAN. The road signs will be installed at three locations from August 2019 to mark them out. The numbering of the TTRs is in accordance with the ASEAN Highway Inventory and are as follows:

  1. ASEAN Highway 2(East), with the signage indicating “AH2(E)”, located along the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) heading towards and away from the Woodlands Checkpoint.
  2. ASEAN Highway 2(West), with the signage indicating “AH2(W)”, located along the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) heading towards and away from the Tuas Checkpoint.
  3. “AH2”, located along West Coast Ferry Road, at the West Coast Highway exit heading towards and away from Pasir Panjang Terminal.

3          Please refer to Annex for details on the exact locations of the road signs.

[1] AFAFGIT is a core instrument in the creation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), which seeks to transform ASEAN into a region with free movement of goods, services, investment and skilled labour, and freer flow of capital.
