Active mobility connectivity in Central Singapore will be further enhanced with the building of more cycling paths in the city and city fringe areas under LTA’s Islandwide Cycling Network (ICN) programme.
2 LTA has called for a tender for the construction of new cycling paths in the central region covering areas such as Bukit Merah, Telok Blangah, Kallang and the city. When progressively completed from next year, active mobility users will enjoy improved interconnectivity to key amenities including transport nodes, schools and neighbourhood centres such as Bukit Merah, Boon Keng and Tiong Bahru.
3 Due to space constraints in some of these built-up areas, adjustments to facilities such as drains and bus stops may be required. LTA will work closely with other agencies to assess these options and engage other relevant stakeholders ahead of any changes.
4 Under the ICN programme, LTA is accelerating the construction of cycling paths across the island to allow residents to enjoy the benefits sooner. To speed up the completion of cycling paths, LTA is taking a phased approach to construct cycling paths in stretches as soon as feasibility studies are completed. This latest tender comes on the heels of our January 2023 announcement of the tender for new cycling paths in seven towns and estates in the East and Northeast. More cycling path tenders, including for cycling paths in the West region, are in the pipeline and details of the planned enhancements will be shared when ready.
5 When realised fully, the ICN programme will result in a cycling network spanning some 1,300km by 2030 and allow 8 in 10 HDB residents to be within minutes of their nearest cycling path.
