Road Closure and Public Transport Arrangement for the Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix 2023

News Releases 24 Aug 2023 formula one (F1) road closures

          The Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix 2023 will take place between 15 and 17 September 2023 around the Marina Centre and Padang area. As with previous editions, road closures will be required to facilitate preparations and race organisers have made arrangements to minimise traffic disruptions. The road closures will take place over seven days from 13 September 2023. Members of the public and F1 ticket holders are strongly encouraged to take public transport to the Marina Centre and Padang area during this period.

Road Closure Over Seven Days

2        Affected roads will close from 12.01am, 13 September 2023 for the set-up of race infrastructure and all roads will be fully-accessible by 5.30am, 19 September 2023. To allow for traffic access as soon as possible, race organisers will adopt a phased approach and progressively re-open affected roads after the race.

Roads Open During Traffic Peak Hours

3        To facilitate morning and evening peak hour traffic, the following road corridors will be opened at selected hours during the road closure period:

13 & 14 September, from 5.30am to 10.00am

Towards Orchard Road

·       Collyer Quay >> St Andrew’s Road >> Stamford Road

Towards Shenton Way

·       Nicoll Highway >> Esplanade Drive/Stamford Road

Towards Marina Boulevard

·       Republic Boulevard >> Raffles Avenue >> Bayfront Avenue

15 September, from 5.30am to 10.00am

Towards Orchard Road

·       Collyer Quay >> St. Andrew’s Road >> Stamford Road

Towards Shenton Way

·       Nicoll Highway >> Esplanade Drive/Stamford Road

18 September, from 5.30am to 10.00am

Towards Shenton Way

Public Transport Arrangements for Commuters

4        MRT train service hours will be extended on race days between 15 and 17 September 2023. Train services will be available at City Hall MRT station till 12.45am on 15 September 2023, 12.30am on 16 September 2023, and 12.45am on 17 September 2023. The operating hours for selected connecting bus services serving MRT stations will also be extended to match the last train services.

5        Members of the public and F1 ticket holders are strongly encouraged to take public transport to get to the Marina Centre and Padang areas between 13 and 19 September 2023. Taxis or private hire cars are also available as additional travel options. Please refer to Annex A for the various transport options and the nearest MRT stations to the respective F1 gates.

Vehicular Access into Marina Centre

6        On race days, 16 and 17 September 2023, motorists can still access the Marina Centre area via a single lane along Raffles Boulevard via Nicoll Highway or Temasek Boulevard (except for buses and vehicles with W, X, Y plates) from 12.00am to 1.00pm.

7        Taxis and motorcycles will also be able to use the single-lane access at all times, except during the hours when the races are ongoing.

8        Traffic wardens will be deployed on site on race days to direct traffic and provide public assistance. Directional signs will also be put up in the vicinity to direct motorists. Car parks at Suntec City, Millenia Walk, and Marina Square will remain open to public. Please refer to Annex B for details of roads that will be affected by the road closures and how motorists can access Marina Bay.
