The Gift of Art (GoA) programme is an art donation programme established by LTA, where organisations and individuals can donate an existing artwork or sponsor a commissioned artwork for display in our MRT stations, where the artworks will be enjoyed by millions of commuters, bringing vibrancy and liveliness to the stations. With the introduction of the GoA programme, together with the existing Art in Transit (AIT) programme, LTA aims to create a more enjoyable, people-centred land transport environment, generating a lifelong connection between the artworks and the commuters who live, work and play around the stations.

Another Day (The Coolies)
by Chong Fah Cheong
Donated by CapitaLand Development
Year: 2024
Another Day (The Coolies) immortalises the coolie, the archetype of the labourer of bygone days. Coolies were bonded workmen in colonial Singapore, and many laboured at the Singapore River waterfront where trade was brisk and relentless. Expertly balancing heavy loads upon their bare backs and shoulders, they clambered barefoot across wooden gangplanks ferrying cargo from the bumboats to quayside warehouses under the scorching tropical sun. Another Day shows two coolies, lean and muscular, sharing a simple meal before beginning another day of hard work. One squats comfortably on his wooden stool while the other draws up a leg to his chest as he raises the bowl to his lips.
Fah Cheong draws inspiration from his Singaporean heritage and reflects on his carefree childhood days through these iconic sculptures.

Journey Across Sunlight: A Siglap Mosaic
by Brian Gothong Tan
Donated by Lim Eng Chong
Year: 2024
Journey Across Sunlight: A Siglap Mosaic is an artwork commissioned by Lim Eng Chong and other Old Victorians (an endearing term for alumni from Victoria School and Victoria Junior College) for Victoria School and the wider Siglap community. Victoria School has nurtured numerous luminaries in the cultural and artistic fields; many of whom are spotlighted in Journey.
Designed by award-winning artist Brian Gothong Tan, himself an Old Victorian, this glass mosaic artwork was inspired by and features elements from the works of Old Victorian luminaries and Singapore Cultural Medallion recipients Dr Iskandar Jalil’s ceramics and Professor Edwin Thumboo’s poetry. “Iskandar Blue”, a tone of blue commonly featured in Iskandar Jalil’s internationally acclaimed ceramics, fills the background of the artwork upon which various motifs and a fragment of poetry by Edwin Thumboo relating to the school and Siglap are layered.
Victoria at Siglap by Edwin Thumboo reads:
Across the sunlight in the straits,
three generations knew
That when you move, you take us all with you.
Indeed, through Journey Across Sunlight: A Siglap Mosaic, the Old Victorians move and take forward with them the current and future students and Siglap community.
