Following a six-month pilot, the Sunday Cycling Lane @ West Camp Road will be made permanent.
Since the beginning of the trial on 16 October 2022, LTA has been closely monitoring traffic conditions and usage patterns of cyclists on the 4.6km cycling lane, in addition to gathering user feedback through ground surveys.
We observed that nearly all users adhered to their allocated lanes during the operating hours of the Sunday Cycling Lane (5am to 11am) and both traffic conditions and bus operations continued to operate smoothly. According to a ground survey, most respondents supported the scheme and said it provides a better allocation of space between cyclists and motorists.
Following the positive outcomes from the trial, the cycling lane will be made permanent and will come into effect every Sunday morning during 5am – 11am. During these operating hours, only buses and cyclists are allowed in the cycling lane. Similar to during the trial, cyclists using the cycling lane during the operating hours will not be subject to the limit on group size.
The cycling lane is demarcated by solid blue lane markings except near junctions and development accesses where the lane is demarcated by dotted blue lane markings and red transverse markings. Motorists are allowed to use the areas demarcated by dotted blue lane and red transverse markings to turn in/out of West Camp Road during cycling lane hours. Motorists are reminded to filter onto these stretches carefully as cyclists and buses may be using the lane.
Besides West Camp Road, LTA is studying other location(s) where the Sunday Cycling Lane scheme can potentially be implemented where dedicated road space is provided for large group cycling when vehicular traffic is low.
