We thank Ms Xu Tai Zhen for her suggestions in her letter on 19 April.
We share similar priorities in enhancing safety and accessibility for pedestrians. As mentioned by Ms Xu, after her first letter was published in November 2022, we had discussed her suggestions with her.
Based on our studies, traffic flow at the location at the junction of Woodlands Road and Jalan Bumbong currently allows most pedestrians time to cross the road safely. However, to further improve the convenience and safety for pedestrians in the area, we will be implementing a barrier-free two-stage crossing at Woodlands Road by the end of this quarter, as well as extending the footpath to the bus-stop.
On her second suggestion to provide a barrier-free access (BFA) walkway at Jalan Bumbong, as shared with Ms Xu, we would need more time to study alternative feasible options. This is due to the steep gradient of Jalan Bumbong, which will pose safety concerns if a straight ramp were to be installed.
We will keep Ms Xu updated on the outcome of our BFA studies, and continue to monitor and review the traffic and pedestrian situation at this location closely.
