This year’s campaign brings the Thoughtful Bunch together through exciting collaborations, offering an array of engaging activities and delightful treats
Celebrating a Decade of Thoughtfulness
The Land Transport Authority’s (LTA) Graciousness on Public Transport Campaign encourages thoughtful acts and behaviours such as giving up seats, queuing in an orderly manner, and moving in for a more pleasant commute on public transport. Introduced in 2014, the Thoughtful Bunch - Stand-up Stacey, Move-In Martin, Give-Way Glenda, Bag-Down Benny and Hush-Hush Hannah – serve as ambassadors for these behaviours. This year marks the 10th year anniversary of our Thoughtful Bunch, which will be celebrated with a series of special initiatives and activities.
“Rides are better when we are thoughtful Together”
2 The Graciousness on Public Transport Campaign 2024, themed “Rides are better when we are thoughtful together” highlights the positive impact that collective thoughtfulness brings to our daily commutes. The campaign aims to inspire thoughtfulness, by showing how our public transport experiences can be more pleasant when everyone plays their part in creating a gracious environment.
3 In partnership with the Public Transport Operators, Public Transport Council (PTC) and Singapore Kindness Movement (SKM), the campaign features new Thoughtful Bunch visuals to encourage commuters to gracious on their public transport journeys. For the first time, the Thoughtful Bunch characters will interact with one another, and be paired according to their personas and messages to reinforce the theme that rides are better when we are thoughtful together. These vibrant visuals will be displayed across public transport nodes, including sheltered walkways, MRT stations and on selected buses.
Graciousness Roadshow Launch at Northpoint City: Unveiling of Thoughtful Bunch sculptures
4 The Graciousness Roadshow 2024 was launched today by Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment & Ministry of Transport, Mr Baey Yam Keng, at Northpoint City (South Atrium). Running from 11 October to 13 October 2024, the Roadshow invites visitors to learn more about the history and evolution of the Thoughtful Bunch and participate in activities and games to win Graciousness merchandise.
5 To bring our Thoughtful Bunch closer to the heartlands, Mr Baey also unveiled a set of life-sized sculptures of the characters. These sculptures, which serve as a friendly reminder for everyone to be gracious during their commutes, will be available for photo opportunities at the Roadshow, before moving to Punggol MRT Station Exit C (North East Line) and Yishun MRT Station Exit B (North-South Line). The sculptures will be at the stations from end October 2024 to end September 2025.
Thoughtful Bakes: Sweet reminders for a gracious commute
6 LTA has partnered with homegrown bakery, BreadTalk, to create a line-up of sweet and savoury treats inspired by the Thoughtful Bunch characters. These unique bakes turn gracious commuting messages into delighful reminders, encouraging our commuters to embrace thoughtfulness during their public transport journeys. These exclusive Thoughtful bakes will be available at 32 BreadTalk outlets in Singapore, from 1 October 2024 to 31 October 2024.
Students’ creative spin on Thoughtfulness
7 LTA also collaborated with students from Republic Polytechnic’s School of Management & Communications and Nanyang Polytechnic’s School of Design & Media to further promote graciousness on public transport. Republic Polytechnic produced a 5-episode mini-series using humour to raise awareness of gracious behaviours, while Nanyang Polytechnic animated the Thoughtful Bunch as adorable ‘chibi’ characters, which is a Japanese style of caricature where characters are drawn in an exaggerated way. Together, these ground-up collaborations which can be viewed on LTA’s YouTube page, aim to raise awareness of considerate behaviour, inspire acts of graciousness and enhance the overall public transport experience.
About the Graciousness on Public Transport Campaign
The Land Transport Authority began the Graciousness on Public Transport Campaign in 2009 to promote acts of thoughtful behaviour on public transport, such as giving up seats, queuing in an orderly manner, and moving in for a more pleasant commute.
The five thoughtful characters, known as the Thoughtful Bunch, were introduced in 2014. They are:
- Stand-Up Stacey: She is the thoughtfulness in you who gives up her seat for those who need it more.
- Give-Way Glenda: She is the thoughtfulness in you who queues and lets others alight first.
- Move-In Martin: He is the thoughtfulness in you who moves in so that others can board.
- Hush-Hush Hannah: She is the thoughtfulness in you who keeps her volume down so that others can enjoy a quieter ride.
- Bag-Down Benny: He is the thoughtfulness in you who puts his bag down so that others have more room.
