PMAs are battery-powered Active Mobility Devices (AMD) intended to assist individuals with walking difficulties. To ensure safe usage, it is important that these devices are used according to the manufacturer’s guidelines. Users should not make modifications to the device, or use an incompatible charger/battery. 

The sale and use of non-compliant AMDs, including PMAs, are illegal. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) takes a serious view on the use of devices with non-original parts. LTA carries out regular enforcement operations to seize non-compliant devices, and has been actively working with online platforms and retailers to remove listings of non-compliant devices. Individuals caught selling non-compliant AMDs, face a fine up to $20,000 or jail term up to 24 months, or both for first time offenders.  

LTA and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) will continue to educate the public on the safe usage of AMDs through programmes such as the ‘Be Device-Safe Programme’. 

LTA will continue to monitor the situation and review measures to protect both device users and the public, including suitable safety standards.
