Joint News Release by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) & SMRT - Service Adjustments on Circle Line and Thomson-East Coast Line to Facilitate Rail Expansion Works
As part of ongoing rail expansion works and to bring our rail network closer to places where Singaporeans live, work and play, LTA and SMRT will undertake a series of works to integrate Stage 4 of the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) and Stage 6 of the Circle Line (CCL) with the existing network. These works require a series of temporary service adjustments on the CCL and the TEL from October 2023 to May 2024. To minimise the impact of these service adjustments, alternative travel options will be put in place to serve commuters who are affected. For more details, please refer to the attached news release.

Stretches of Thomson-East Coast Line noisier due to track curvature
LTA and the public transport operators closely monitor the noise levels on all our MRT lines. All our underground MRTs are generally kept to an interior noise threshold of 85 decibels LAeq (a measurement of sound pressure over a period of time). From our monitoring, we are aware that there are some areas along the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) where this noise threshold may be exceeded, such as between Springleaf and Lentor Stations, Stevens and Napier Stations as well as Bright Hill and Upper Thomson Stations. This is due to the curvature of the tracks in these areas. For more details, please refer to the attached reply.
