Today, Senior Minister of State for Transport Dr Amy Khor announced the locations of 10 new Friendly Streets sites islandwide. Friendly Streets are located in residential areas with high pedestrian activity and close to key amenities such as markets, hawker centres, community clubs, schools, and MRT stations. These locations have a higher proportion of seniors or young families.
2 Friendly Streets are designed to make walking and cycling commutes within neighbourhood centres easier and safer, especially for seniors and young children. In partnership with the local communities, the locations and features of the 10 new Friendly Streets were finalised after consultation with stakeholders and residents:

3 Construction works will progressively start from the first half of 2025 and complete in 2026. Where possible, works will be conducted together with other projects in the vicinity to minimise disamenities to the residents. When completed, residents can look forward to more barrier-free crossings, traffic-calming features such as road humps, green road markings to encourage drivers to slow down before these crossings, and pedestrian-friendly zones marked with the signature Friendly Streets icon.
4 At the Holland/ Buona Vista Friendly Street, LTA will be implementing measures on several roads to improve pedestrian friendliness at Holland Avenue, Holland Drive and Holland Village Market & Food Centre area. For example, a new signalised pedestrian crossing across Holland Avenue will enhance safety for residents heading to Holland Village/Holland Avenue Hill Park, while the relocation of the signalised pedestrian crossing across Holland Drive to directly serve Holland Drive Market & Food Centre will bring more convenience to residents at Holland Vista. New road humps and wider centre dividers along Holland Ave and Holland Drive will slow down traffic, making it safer for everyone, especially the elderly to get to the markets, eateries, Buona Vista Community Club, and the Holland Village and Buona Vista MRT stations.
5 The Friendly Streets at Bukit Panjang will feature additional kerbless crossings to facilitate barrier-free crossing, road humps and green markings to slow down traffic. The signalised pedestrian crossing between Bukit Panjang Community Centre and Pending LRT station will have pedestrian priority, which gives pedestrians more time to cross the road. These enhancements will complement the nearby Silver Zone at Bukit Panjang Ring Road (between Bukit Panjang Road and Segar Road), further improving road safety in the area, especially near Bukit Panjang Hawker Centre and Market. With the Bangkit LRT station and Zhenghua Nature Park also nearby, residents will find it even more convenient and safer to walk or jog to these amenities when the Friendly Street has been implemented.
6 At Pek Kio, many pedestrians cross Cambridge Road and Owen Road to reach Pek Kio Market. To make it safer for residents to cross the roads, we will be implementing a raised signalised pedestrian crossing on Owen Road, raised zebra crossings, kerbless crossings and centre dividers. This would benefit not only the existing residents in the neighbourhood but also future residents and young families in the upcoming public housing flats at Owen Road.
Updates on Friendly Streets Pilots
7 We have completed works for four Friendly Streets pilots. Response from residents have been positive, with nine in ten agreeing that their walking and cycling experiences have improved. Meanwhile, works for the remaining Friendly Street pilot in Tampines Avenue 9 will complete by March 2025. We will continue to carry out further works to improve commuter experience in these areas, such as upgrading bus stops and implementing covered linkways.
